StarTimes to Provide Direct-to-Home Services in Partnership with SES

StarTimes which is one of the satellite TV channels providers in the country has partnered with SES and SES Platform Services for the distribution of its direct-to-home (DTH) TV channels services throughout Africa. The service will be provided via the facility of SES platform located in Germany.

Base on the new deal, the video processing, signal turnaround and unlinking services of the SD and HD channels of StarTimes will be provided by SES. The DTT and DTH StarTimes’ subscribers in 16 African countries are over 5 millions. Currently, StarTimes is providing its viewers with contents in English-language across the region via SES-5 satellite located at five degrees east.

Pang Xinxing, the StarTimes Group Chairman and President while speaking about the new deal said that the company wanted their subscribers to see them as a reliable DTH platform operator that provided interesting content at an affordable price to their subscribers. The company according to him believed that the SES and SES Platform Services have the required expertise and infrastructure as well as space to help StarTimes improve on their TV business by providing a wider range of contents to their viewers.

The SES Platform Services’ Chief Executive Officer, Wilfried Urner said that the new deal showed the confident StarTimes had in the abilities of SES and SES Platform Services to provide them with ground segment services as well as the space they required to enhance their business in Sub-Saharan African. He expressed the company’s happiness for being valued by StarTimes.
