It seems that MTN Nigeria which is one of the leading mobile operators and telecom service providers in the country is making plans to provide cable TV services in Nigeria. The company over the week obtained a pay-TV license from nation’s broadcast regulator.
The company is yet to make any comment regarding the reason why it obtained the TV license and how it planned to offer the services.
But it could be recalled that the company has made failed attempts to introduce bundled movie streaming, namely, Afrinolly and Dobox.
Though MTN has remained quiet about the TV license it obtained over the week from the body regulating broadcast in the country, some analysts think that the company wants to diverse its service and rely less on mobile voice call services given the introduction of voice calls by many OTT services such as Viber, Whatsapp and others.
