Another lawsuit has been initiated against MTN Nigeria, the leading telecom company in the country. The lawsuit was filed by Mr. Rickey Tarfa, (SAN). Other respondents in the case are the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, the Chairman of the commission, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN) and Mrs. Rashidatou Abdou.

Mr Rickey has approached court to seek for a compensation of N5b for violation of his right to privacy.

It should be recalled that on Friday 5, 2016, EFCC arrested Tarfa and seized his Mercedez SUV with the plate number KJA 700 CG as well as his two mobile phones. He was accused of preventing EFCC from arresting two alleged suspects by hiding them in his car.

Mr Rickey has prayed the court to declare that accessing the call records/log on his mobile phone with the phone number 08034600000 without his permission and making the content available to Sahara Reporters and other internet media houses amount to a violation of his right to privacy.

He asked the court to order the defendants to pay him a compensation of 5b Naira for injury done to him through the violation of his right to privacy.
