Etisalat and Globacom to Pay N14.4million Fine for Failure to Disconnect Unregistered SIMs

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has fined two of the leading mobile network operators in Nigeria, namely, Etisalat and Globacom  for failing to disconnect unregistered SIM Cards on their respective networks

NCC which is the legitimate body that regulates the activities of the telecom industries and mobile network operators in the countries has in the recent time alleged that all the mobile network operators in the country has failed to comply completely to its directives. The Commission threatened to penalize any of them that failed to comply within the given deadline.

According to our sources, the monitoring team of NCC has discovered 35 and 37 pre-registered SIM cards on Etisalat and Globacom networks respectively. Based on the regulations of the NCC, any pre-registered SIM card will attract a fine of N200,000. Following this regulation, the two companies will pay a total sum of NGN14.4million as fine for the offenses committed.

The network operators are expected to pay their fine on or before September 7. Any of the companies that fails to pay the fine on or before the deadline will pay NGN100,000 extra per day until the fine is fully paid.
