The Chairman of Sokoto State Ulama Forum of Izala, Sheikh Abubakar Usman Mabera, on Sunday said, any muslim lawyer who defends the Kano State singer Yahaya Aminu Sharif, who was recently convicted for blasphemy by a sharia court has renounced his Islamic faith.

The cleric said a competent sharia court in Kano has sentenced the Kano singer to death for blasphemy, adding that, blasphemy, according to Islamic teachings, is a capital punishment which carries a death sentence.

The cleric who is also the Chief Imam of Malam Buhari Dan Shehu mosque in Sokoto, urged Muslim lawyers trying to defend the musician to be careful, noting that,’any lawyer who comes out to defend him has renounced his Islamic faith.’

He said, the musician ought to subject himself to the punishment as Allah will, owing to the fact that it was a competent sharia court in Kano that established the fact that he insulted the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

The Islamic cleric urged the people to stop their evil ways, and seek forgiveness from God, adding that thr creator is not happy with them, saying, all these calamities bedevilling the country are signs of our wrongdoings.

‘For all indications, God is not happy with us and we have to repent because He alone is the answer to our woes, he declared.
