The vehicle of the missing Army General, Major General Idris Alkali, has been recovered from a pond in Dura Du, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The general who is the immediate past Chief of Administration, Army Headquarters, Abuja, was declared missing on September 3 on his way to Bauchi after leaving Abuja in the morning.

The army upon intelligence gathering, decided to drain the pond with the believe that the remains of the general and his car will be found.

Women numbering about 500 however, took to the streets to protest against the proposed plan by the army to drain the pond, due to its “deep cultural significance,” to the community. According to the protesting women they claimed they would lose their husbands and children should the river be evacuated.

More so, divers who were called upon to check the pond were unable to find any proof the general or hia car might be underneath, forcing military personnel from 3 Divisiom, Nigerian Army, Rukuba and Operation Safe Haven, to commence evacuation of water from the pond on September 20.

Report has it that General Alkali’s vehicle and that of four other victims were discovered in the pond and some items belonging to the general were also retrieved from the car.
