Valentine Chinyem

Governors of the 19 northern states in Nigeria, have rejected the disbandment of the special anti-robbery squad (SARS).

Plateau state governor, Simon Lalong, who is also the chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, while speaking to State House correspondents after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja on Thursday, said the police unit has been useful in the fight against insecurity in the region.

“SARS is not made up of bad elements alone as it also includes personnel who are doing their work diligently,” he said.

According to him, what is needed is the reformation of the unit to enable it discharge its functions “optimally”.

The govenor however, said, his visit to the Villa was to commend president Buhari for approving community policing, which has since commenced training in the various zones of the country.
