Mr. James Entwistle, the Ambassador of the United States of America in Nigeria has said during a familiarization visit to the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu that his country, the US is ready to establish a synergy with Nigeria in the area of biotechnology and other areas the two countries have mutual interest.
Entwistle who was in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria on Tuesday for a visit to Dr. Onu who was recently appointed by President Buhari as the Minister of Science and Technology told his host that the United States of America was ready to collaborate with Nigiera in the area of electricity which according to him can only be boosted by the private sector.
While calling on the Nigeria government to establish a suitable environment for private sector, Enwistle recalled how the US provided assistance to Nigeria in the area of Nuclear energy saying that it was related to safety. He said that the United States of America was dedicated in bettering the Nigerian power sector via its Power Africa Programme. According to him, the US will help in the generation of more power through the private sector.
Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, the Nigeria Minister of Science and Technology while responding to Entwistle said that the ministry of science and technology will assist the country to transit from her mono economy status to a diversified economy. According to him, Nigeria has no reason not to feed herself. He requested for transfer of technology in such areas as biotechnology, agriculture and innovation.
