Suicide Bomber Hits Yola Mosque, 27 Confirmed Dead, Over 90 injured

A suicide bomber has killed over 27 worshippers and injured about 90 persons, at a mosque in the Jabutu area of Yola, Adamawa State.

This is coming barely 12-hours, after a twin suicide bomb blast rocked a mosque in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, killing at least 18 persons.

Witnesses around the mosque, said the blast occurred immediately the jumuah prayers commenced.

Survivors said the teenage bomber who disguised as worshipper detonated the explosives in the premises after failing to reach the main building.

However, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed the figures, adding that 18 corpses had already been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre, Yola, while 9 more persons have been confirmed dead at the Specialist Hospitals in Yola and 30 hospitalized, making a total figure of 27 deaths and 90 injured.

DSP Othman Abubakar, who is the Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa, confirmed the death of many worshippers in the explosion.

Rescue workers and security operatives are on ground, trying to help survivors.

More so, Adamu Dodo, a spokesman for one of the hospitals, has appealed to the public, to come donate blood to the victims, who are said to be in critical condition.
