Drama ensued in the National Assembly today, during the confirmation of Ministerial Nominees, as Senators belonging to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), staged a walk-out from the red chamber of the National Assembly in protest of the confirmation of former Rivers State Governor, Chubuike Rotimi Amaechi, as minister.

Senators from the All Progressive Congress (APC), before the confirmation, rejected the report of its Committee on Ethic and Privileges which recommended that due to the outstanding case of corruption against the former governor, by Rivers State, advised against pronouncing him minister.

The walk-out was led by Senator Goodswill Akpabio, who spoke to journalists briefly after leaving the chamber said, the PDP senators walked out ‎because they considered the confirmation of Amaechi as not being in conformity with the law.

He said the opposition lawmakers called for a suspension of the confirmation of the nominee until the case against him was determined.

However, all Ministerial Nominees have been confirmed by the Senate, as ministers, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Mamhood Yakubu, and five Commissioners to represent the five geopolitical zone of the country.
