The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) on October 13, 2015 warned Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha to stop victimizing workers in the State due to their demand for their legitimate rights.

This warning is contained in a statement issued by the NLC General Secretary, Mr. Peter Ozo-Eson. The statement reveals that the NLC is unhappy with the Governor‘s deployment of Officers of the Nigerian
Police Force to forcefully chase out Imo State workers from their offices.

According to Ozo-Eson, “In the course of this, we (NLC) have been reliably informed that scores of workers have been arrested, brutalized and tear-gassed. We would want to condemn it in strong
terms, these unwholesome tactics in pursuit of a dangerous agenda by the Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha. We will resist the use of police to deal with an issue that is purely
industrial. “

The NLC General Secretary further urged the Inspector General of Police to step into the matter and order the Imo State Commissioner of Police to prevent re-occurrence of this brutal act.

In addition to that, the Labour Congress said it would mobilize its associates, State Councils and Civil Societies to Imo State to enforce Imo State workers‘ right if this barbaric act continues.
