The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has ordered all telecommunication companies to always filter messages sent to subscribers to their network.

As ordered by NCC, the telecom companies are directed to install software that will stop unsolicited messages from outside of their networks from getting to their subscribers.

The Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Prof. Umar Garba disclosed this during the 11th Port Harcourt International Trade Fair 2015 that took place in Port Harcourt Liberation Stadium.

NCC gave this order following numerous complaints by the subscribers of the network service providers that they received numerous unsolicited messages from telecom industries providing them with their services.

The Head of Public Relations of NCC who was represented by Reuben Mouka said that it was the right of consumers to complain if they are not properly treated by their network providers.

NCC’s Deputy Director of the Consumer Affairs Bureau, Femi Atoyebi called on consumers to make good use of NCC 622 toll-free line so that the service providers would exploit them. He also took time to answer consumers’ question.
