Meet With Asthma : Syptoms and Care for Asthma



His age was 45 years. From few days, he felt difficulty in breathing. After diagnosis, doctor told him that he is suffering from asthma. Asthma is chronic disorder of lungs. Asthma is a disease that affects the airways that carry air from and to lungs. The people who have suffering from this long lasting disease are said to be asthmatic.  In this disease, there is inflammation in bronchial tubes (airways).

This inflammation is actual cause of constriction in air-ways and in results, the person feels difficulty in breathing. Also, this inflammation increases susceptibility to an allergic reaction. It has estimated that asthma affects 300 million people in the world and more than 20 million in United States. It is very sad that every year 255,000 worldwide people lose their lives because of asthma.

Asthma is disease which we can find not only in old person but also in babies. Especially those babies who have low weight after birth, exposed to tobacco smoke and are raised in a low income environment. There are also some additional risk factors for children include having allergies, the allergic skin condition eczema and parent with asthma. Different types of breathing allergies are also cause of asthma. Animal protein (dogs, cats allergens) , dust mites, cockroaches and fungi are common source of allergens. Tobacco smoke, hay fever, viral infections such as cold, flu and sudden weather changes are also cause of asthma. Besides these, another important cause of asthma is indoor as well as outdoor pollution.

Common signs and symptoms of asthma are cough (at night time), wheezing (whistling in sound) ,shortness of breath and chest tightness. Asthma can be diagnosis with the help of X-ray of lungs.  Doctors have suggested some preventive measures by which we can cure the diseases.

  1. Remove carpets from the rooms, as carpets are the major absorber of dust particles.
  2. Learn relaxation techniques.
  3. Eliminate pets from homes.
  4. Keep the humidity level below 50 % in that environment you are living.
  5. Avoid smoking places like clubs, bars etc.
  6. Reduce egg yolks, meats in your diet. As, these have arachidonic acid which causes inflammation.
