The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has ordered the immediate dissolution of the IGP Special Tactical Squad (IGP-STS).
This was made known in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood.
“Senior officers attached to the erstwhile Special Tactical Squad (STS) who were linked with complicity or played conspiracy role(s) in the unauthorised, illegal and unprofessional misconduct in the search of elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark’s residence in Asokoro, Abuja on the 4th of September, 2018 are now undergoing strict disciplinary procedures,” the statement said.
According to the statement, the order which will take effect immediately, also directed that all the personnel of the squad be redeployed to other departments and formations of the Force.
The dissolution of the IGP squad became necessary after some police officers attached to the unit, raided the house of elder statesman, chief Edwin Clark, in Abuja, in search of arms and ammunition, without being authorized to do so.
The Police, while giving reasons for their dismissal, said it was “for the unauthorized, illegal and unprofessional misconduct in the search of the residence of Chief Edwin Clark in Asokoro, Abuja.”
