A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered that Ali Ndume, the Senator representing Borno South, be remanded in Kuje correctional centre, over his failure to produce Abdulrasheed Maina in court.
Senator Ndume had stood surety for Maina, former pension board, who is standing trial before the court for money laundering and corruption.
Justice Okon Abang made the order on Monday following Ndume’s failure to produce Maina, who is believed to have jumped bail and failure to show why he should not forfeit his bail bond. He ordered that Ndume should only be released if he meets either of three conditions.
According to Justice Abang, Ndume will pay N500m bail bond to the federal government, with evidence, which is to be presented in court or the federal government sells the property situated in Asokoro, Abuja with which Ndume pledged as security for the bond, with evidence of sale and payment of the N500m realised into the Federation Account or he (Ndume) produces Maina, who is believed to have now jumped bail, in court.
Ndume was subsequently led away from the courtroom, to the correctional centre, pending fulfillment of the judge’s pronouncement.
