The Lagos State Police Command has begun investigation into the deaths of a police corporal and one other person in Agege area on Sunday afternoon.

The spokesman of the command, DSP Joseph Offor, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday that the case had been transferred to the state CID, Panti.

He said the state CID had been directed to unravel the circumstances leading to the deaths.

“There are so many stories going round town on the matter. We don’t know the true story and we don’t want to speculate. Elere Police Station got information at about 2.00 p.m. on Sunday that a policeman was killed in his car.

“The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) went there with his men and found the police corporal dead in his car.

“His pistol, service rifle and other documents were intact in the car. We don’t know what happened. The policeman’s friend who was with him was also killed.

The DPO carried the corpses to the Ikeja General Hospital,” Offor said.

Unconfirmed reports have it that some suspected gunmen on Sunday shot dead the police corporal, David Sunday, and his friend, identified as Taiwo Balogun, in the Agege area of Lagos.

NAN learnt that the policeman, who was attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja, was driving in his car with Balogun at about 2.00 p.m. when the duo were attacked and shot by their assailants.

It was gathered that another occupant of the car, identified as Raheem Suleiman, was hit by gunshots, but survived and was receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
