Two Mobile Police (MOPOL) men lost their lives and their guns carted away in Port Harcourt the Rivers State capital, after an attack by robbers.
The attack which took place along Timber-by Ojoto road, Mile 2, Diobu, saw two civilians sustaining bullet wounds.
It was gathered that, the two policemen were inside a Toyota Camry car escorting another vehicle conveying cash to the bank when they were ambushed.
The two civilians, who sustained bullet injuries, were drivers of both vehicles.
The remains of the police officers, were first taken to the Iloabuchi-Azikiwe police station, and subsequently deposited in a mortuary.
More so, the injured drivers have been taking to a hospital for treatment.
Spokesman of Diobu vigilance group, Prince Amatari-Bipelidei, who confirmed the incident to journalists, expressed shock over the incident, saying the gunmen shot sporadically after killing the policemen.
According to him, government needs to act fast in equiping local vigilance group, or establish the Rivers State Neighbourhood Safety Corps in the area, so as to check-mate the prevailing insecurity in the state.
Sources within the area of the crime also disclosed that the robbers succeeded in carting away an unspecified amount of cash from the victims.
The state police command is yet to confirm the killing of the two policemen.
