The Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has sentenced the notorious serial killer, Gracious David-West, to death by hanging.
David-West was charged on a nine count charge for the murder of nine women and one attempted murder.
The presiding judge, Justice Adolphus Enebeli found Mr. West guilty of the murder of Maureen Ewuru, Jennifer Nwokocha, Blessing Effiong Linda Warifa Samuel, Dorcas Francis, Kelechi Bridget Onuoha Rose Samuel Anthonia Ibe and the attempted murder of Benita Etim.
Justice Enebeli, convicted the serial killer of the charges against him, saying that the convict be hanged by the neck till he is dead.
However, counsel to David-West, Vincent Chukwu, had pleaded with the court for leniency on the grounds that his client is a father of three young children.
The state prosecuting counsel, Chidi Ekeh, refuted, saying David-West, does not deserve any leniency as he did not show mercy to his victims and urged the court to ensure justice in the matter.
The court also acquitted one Nimi ThankGod, the second defendant in the case, she was a manager of one of the hotels in Port Harcourt where one of the victims was killed. The Judge noted that the state prosecuting counsel failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the accused committed the offence.
She was accused accused of evacuating the corpse of one of the victims killed in a room in the hotel where she served as a manager and dumped the body at a refuse site along Aggrey Road in Port Harcourt in August, 2019.
