Boko Haram now Use Phones, IPads & Laptops for Bomb – IGP

The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, has warned the public against picking up abandoned devices like phones, tablets, laptops, as this is the latest technique used by the islamist sect, Boko Haram to perpetrate evil

He said the extremists now build bombs in iPads and cellphones and leave them for people to pick up.

The IGP said this while parading five suspects on Thursday in an Abuja High Court, in connection with the twin bombings that rocked the capital on October 2, killing 15 people.

Mr. Arase said they were arrested in Abuja with “dangerous bombing tools” including high-tech gadgets.

He warned Nigerians to avoid temptation and not pick up abandoned iPads, phones or laptops “as terrorists now use these items in manufacturing bombs.”

Nigeria’s home-grown extremist group Boko Haram is known for using kidnap victims strapped with explosives in suicide bombings that have killed hundreds in recent months, including in neighboring countries.

Arase said, the five suspects were arrested at Karamajiji Village, behind National Military Cemetery along Airport Road, Abuja and dangerous bombing tools which include I-pad, Laptop and Phone believed to be used as materials for making bombs were recovered.

More so, he said the arrest of the suspects was made possible by the proactive nature of the newly formed Intelligence Response Team.
