Nigerian government as well as the government of other African countries has been urged to embrace the new Internet of Things (IoT) which is gradually changing the face of world’s technology.
Mr. Sicheng, the Vice President of Alibaba gave this advice during the opening ceremony of the ongoing 35th GITEX Technology Week taking place in Dubai. The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) is representing Nigeria in the ceremony. The agency is charged with the responsibility of implementing information technology policy in the country.
In his presentation titled ‘The Future of Innovation and the Converging Force Change’ Mr. Sicheng Yu said that rules of business will be rewritten by a number of converging forces being experienced by the world today. The same forces according will also redefine the world of innovation. According to him, each of these factors can affect technology negatively if nothing is done to define the future of the world.
In his words “the world is currently experiencing a number of converging forces that will both rewrite the rules of business and redefine the world of innovation. Each of these driving forces has the potential of blindsiding us if we do not spend time crafting stories about the world to come.”
Explaining what the world will look like in the future with the Internet of thing (IoT), Mr. Sicheng said that with IoT, cars will be able to communicate with each other, making it possible for traffic caused by vehicular movement to be freed. He disclosed that many innovations will be made in the future.
Continuing in his speech, he urged the African countries including Nigeria to start taking advantage of the innovations by making use of the internet, promoting big data and cloud computing. Connecting the internet with big data and cloud computing, Sicheng said that big data which is now on the increase in demand cannot work effectively in exclusion of the cloud computing which also requires the internet to function effectively.
In concluding his speech, he said that his company would remain commitment in utilizing its platform to make system and application function effectively and quicker for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in order to establish a business efficiency that will reduce of business.
