The young man, simply identified by his alias, ‘Email’, has been shot dead by a lady, while testing the efficacy of a local charm which repels bullets.
It was gathered that the man, an Indian hemp seller, was sitting in company of friends at his residence, at Nelson Mandela Street, Calabar South, opposite the Assembly of God Church, when the incident occured.
Younger brother to the girl, name withheld, who narrated the story to the Nation newspaper, said his sister, by name Blessing, was passing by the deceased’s compound, who also happens to be her boyfriend, when he called her into their midst.
He and his friends were said to have taken local concoctions including native charms against guns and bullet that morning and were testing the efficacy of the charms at the time his sister was passing by.
Others tested theirs and it proved effective but the deceased young man decided to pick his girlfriend to use the gun on him, unfortunately, the gunshot from the girl penetrated his body and he died instantly.
His friends were said to have descended on the girl with machete and other weapons, beating her to stupor before the police were called upon.
The girl’s younger brother, noted that the Police took the body of the deceased away and also took his sister to the Police Clinic in Calabar where she is currently receiving treatment.
Police Spokesman in the state, DSP Irene Ugbo confirmed the incident to the press, saying the young lady is still recuperating from her wounds.
