Former Super Eagles midfielder, Christian Obodo, was on Sunday kidnapped by unknown gunmen along Refinery Road, Warri in Delta State.
He was said to have been abducted when he stopped to buy bananas.
This was made known by the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, Onome Onovawakpoyeya.
He said, “Obodo was kidnapped at about 5pm on Sunday around Ishaka Hotel just along Refinery Road.”
“He was with his girlfriend when he was abducted. They both stopped by the road to buy bananas.”
This is the second time the 36 year old will be kidnapped in the state within 8-years.
Recall that the former Udinese star was abducted by unknown gunmen on June 9, 2012, on his way to church in Warri.
Obodo, was regained his freedom a day after he was taken to a community in Isoko by his abductors, where he was rescued by some villagers and vigilante group, before policemen tracked and arrested the suspects.
Several footballers and their family members have been kidnapped in Nigeria in the past.
However as at press time, the abductors of Obodo are yet to contact his family members to make a demand.
