The Chief Medical Director of the Irrua Specialist Hospital, Prof. Sylvanus Okogbenin, has been kidnapped.
His convoy was attacked by unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers at Ramat Park Ikpoba-Okha local government area while the he was on his way to Benin. The gunmen were said to have killed the two policemen attached to his convoy as escort before taking him away.
Two other persons in the company of the CMD were also shot in the leg.
More so, recall that two Assistant Directors of the hospital were abducted last week and were released after payment of ransom.
DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, Edo State Police Spokeman, who confirmed the incident, said investigation has commenced.
Meanwhile, chairman of Senior Staff Association of Universities Teaching Hospital Research Institute and Associated Instituions of Nigeria, Irrua branch, Comrade Emmanuel Igiechi, said the union would protest against insecurity in the area.
He said with the latest abduction, it shows that staff of the hospital were being monitored by kidnappers.
“This tells us how serious the security situation has become. It is a very dire situation we are in. The security agencies should strengthen their presence in Irrua and environs.”
