A 23-year-old boy identified as Ibrahim Hassan, has been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force for allegedly killing his 90-year-old father, Sabi Ibrahim, in Kwara State.
This was confirmed by the spokesman of the Kwara State Command, SP Okansanmi Ajayi, who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
He said the suspect committed the offence in the Ajibesin area along Okolowo Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
According to him, the suspect confessed to killing his father in order to have access to his bank account.
The Command’s spokesman said, “on August 5, one Aishat Ibrahim visited the police and reported that her 90-year-old dad was missing.
“Upon investigation into the matter, the suspect who is the biological son of the missing old man was arrested.
“During investigation, he confessed to have administered paracetamol injection mixed with other substances on his father, who became weak and dizzy immediately after the injection.”
“He said that he did this after coming from the bank where he took his father to renew and collect his ATM card. He then, took the father on a motorcycle he borrowed to convey his father to an isolated uncompleted building and strangulated him to death. Thereafter, he said he dug a shallow grave where he buried his father after dispossessing him of the ATM card they went to the bank to collect,” he narrated.
The command spokesman further noted that the suspect after killing and burying his father escaped to Kaduna State and started withdrawing from his late father’s account.
According to him, “the suspect withdrew a total sum of N59,000. He stated further that the purpose of killing his father was to dispossess him of the ATM card since he already knew the pin. He also sold the borrowed motorcycle and eloped to Kaduna State where he was eventually arrested.”
Items recovered from the suspect, Ajayi said are “the ATM card and the stolen motorcycle,” adding that he would be charged to court after investigations.
