Oba of Lagos, Rilwanu Akiolu, has been rescued by a team of soldiers from rampaging thugs who reportedly invaded the palace and attempted to burn it down.

This was confirmed by the Monarch’s Personal Assistant, Deoye Olumegbon, who said the soldiers responded in time to a distress call before whisking the Oba away.

“Kabiyesi is safe. Soldiers came to rescue him. But thugs have vandalised and looted the palace. No one is dead but they carted away valuable properties,” Mr Olumegbon, a prince from the Olumegbon royal family revealed.

However, another residents who spoke in anonymity, said the thug are the same ones who set the family home of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu ablaze.

“When the thugs went to attack Sanwo-Olu’s father’s home, some of them were shot by the police. This infuriated them and they were able to engage the police in a gun duel and overpower them. The policemen, who are attached to the Adeniji Adele Police Station, quickly made a retreat.

“The angry youths made their way to the Palace of the Oba of Lagos. They claim the king is part of the government. The thugs have only been attacking government institutions,” he said.
