Dreaded terrorist sect, Boko Haram have reportedly ambushed a senior military officer and his men, between Bama and Maiduguri.
The troops were said to be returning to Bama, after a working visit to Maiduguri.
They came under heavy gunfire from insurgents, as they tried to slow down and manoeuvre through a bad portion of the road, which had potholes.
A source familiar with the development identified the slain Commanding Officer as Lieutenant Colonel Salami.
“They were cornered and ambushed,” the source added.
He said some of the soldiers died, while others survived the onslaught, but with various degrees of gun injuries and some military vehicles got damaged in the process.
