The Edo State Police Command has reiterated the ban on sales of fireworks, while adding that offenders caught in the act would be prosecuted.
This was made known by DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, the command’s Public Relations Officer, while speaking in Benin, the Edo State capital.
He said, “The command warns sellers, buyers of fireworks, parents, guardians and children to desist from sale, purchase and use of fireworks before, during and after the yuletide.”
He said this is to checkmate those who might want to hide under the guise of the festive season to perpetrate their nefarious act.
The spokesman noted that in view of this, there would be continuous manhunt for offenders.
According to him, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Johnson Kokumo, has put measures in place and operatives drafted into markets and other places of sales with a view to arresting dealers and buyers.
Nwabuzor said the command is committed and steadfast in its efforts in fighting crime and criminality, while assuring residents of their safety during and after the yuletide.
