Senate President and campaign chairman for the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Bukola Saraki, today visited Iyiola Omisore, governorship candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the Osun State.
The meeting is sequel to the Osun State governorship election held on Saturday.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared the election “inconclusive”, after candidate of the Sen. Ademola Adeleke of the PDP, polled 254,698 while the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gboyega Oyetola, polled 254,345, leaving Adeleke with the win with 353 votes.
However, the difference between the two leading parties, PDP and the APC, was lower than the number of the votes cancelled, hence the rerun.
According to Saraki, Omisore has agreed to work with the PDP, to ensure victory for its candidate, Ademola Adeleke.
Saraki while tweeting after his visit to Omisore, said, “I thank Sen. Iyiola Omisore (@iyiomisore) for the warm reception he and his people gave me and members of my entourage in Ile-Ife today.
“We have agreed to work together because our goals are the same. We all want good governance in Osun State. Over the next 24 hours, we will work out the details.
“Our discussion will definitely be useful for the growth of democracy in our country; the development of Osun State and its people; as well as for future engagements among political players.
“From now on, it will be a win-win situation for the State of the Land of Virtue, Osun, and Nigeria, in general.
His father, Oba David Omisore, is the ruler of the Garage Olode, a town in Ife-South, where elections in two units were cancelled.
Speaking on the visit, Omisore, who also dumped the PDP after a disagreement over the party’s primary before the election, said that as a stakeholder in the state, he was always after a people-centered government.
Omisore said, “I have given my programmes to both the APC and the PDP. My programme is like this; payment of salaries and pensions. Good governance is what is important to me.
“Anyone among the two that will do that will get my support. I am passionate about Osun State and my interest is the welfare of the people of this state. I have told those sent to me. At the appropriate time, we will tell you where we are going.”

The rerun election will take place on Thursday, 27 September im four local government areas.
