Popular Nigerian musician, Adekunle Temitope, also known by his stage name “Small Doctor”, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for unlawful possession of firearms.

This was made known by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, on Monday.

The commissioner while parading the musician along with three other suspects, said the musician allegedly threatened to shoot a police officer.

He berated the artist for not leading by example, while noting that he expected him to have learnt his lessons from his ongoing case of gun shots fired during one of his shows at Agege, in Lagos, where four persons were injured and which is currently being investigated by the SCIID.

In his words, “It was alleged that some unknown men, four of them, in an unregistered green SUV had brought out a gun and threatened a policeman that if he does not leave the road, they will shoot him.

“Believing that they were armed robbers, I sent out my men and fortunately, with the DPO in charge of Shogunle division, they were able to intercept them and the men were arrested and were brought down to the headquarters for interrogation.

“It was then discovered that one of them is the same Adekunle Temitope, a.k.a. ‘Small Doctor’. They were arrested in possession of a functional rifle, cartridge and some of their personal belongings.”

“I am concerned as one who will expect that a popular musician like him would be a role model but his character of gangsterism is nothing to emulate.” he said.

He contiued: “You would recall that the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris have a window period for submission of all firearms as all licences had been cancelled and all approvals suspended.

“I have directed that the case be properly investigated and they will be charged for threatening violence on policemen and being in possession of forearm.” he said.
