Angry youths yesterday, barricaded a major road in Ondo State, following the alleged killing of a bike man, otherwise known as Okada, by a policeman in the Iju area of the State.

But for the timely intervention of the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, who addressed the crowd, things would have gotten out of hand, as he was said to be stuck in traffic caused by the rampaging youths.

It was gathered that his motorcade and other motorists were prevented from plying the route close to Iju/Itaogbolu police station where the restive youths had gathered and blocked with bonfires.

The Governor was said to have walked up to the angry youths, even against the advise of his security detail. He told them, he plies the route on a regular basis and wouldn’t have taken other routes, because of the youths.

He promised to get in touch with the Ekiti State Police Commissioner who in turn would get in touch with his Ondo counterpart, and make sure the trigger happy policeman is brought to book.

The Governor later told them he’ll drop some “little cash” for “morning bread”, to the admiration of the now calm youths who quickly looked for water from the deserted police station to quench the bonfire.

The barricades too were removed as the governor supervised for some minutes, the free flow of traffic before finally taking his leave.
