The office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Akure, Ondo state, has been gutted by fire.
The fire, which was said to have started at about 8pm on Thursday, razed burnt about 5000 smart card readers stored in a container.
It is not clear what led to the fire outbreak, but it was revealed that the destroyed card readers were meant for the October 10 governorship election in the state.
INEC made this known in a series of tweets on Thursday night, adding that the fire service were already on ground trying to put the fire out. The commission also said investigation will commence once the fire has been contained.
