One of the suspected killers of one Captain Ibrahim and six soldiers of the Nigerian Army in Bakura forest, Zamfara State was yesterday arrested while boarding a plane to Saudi Arabia for this year’s hajj at the Sultan Abubakar International Airport, Sokoto.

Sani Halliru was said to have been trailed from Zamfara to Sokoto by army intelligence officers before he was picked up.

An Air Force officer at the airport, who sought for anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press, said Haliru had been on the wanted list of the army over his involvement in the killing of seven soldiers in the forest last year.

The officer alleged that the suspect had been identified as the one who shot and killed Captain Ibrahim when a gang of cattle rustlers was engaged in a fierce battle at the forest.
Daily Trust learnt that Haliru is a native of Dutsen Kura village in Tsafe LGA of Zamfara State .

“He was trailed by army intelligence officers from Zamfara to Sokoto and was identified and arrested by men of the Nigerian Air Force providing security at the airport while trying to board a plane along with other intending pilgrims,” he said. He added that Halliru had during interrogation made confessional statements and was handed over to the One Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Sokoto for further investigation.

Daily Trust gathered that the suspect was in the company of his wife who was also going to Saudi Arabia for the hajj.
