Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike has rescued Joy Nunieh, former Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, after it was revealed that about 30 armed policemen have surrounded her home, preventing her from leaving her house in Port Harcourt.
The policemen were said to have been in front of her gate since 4:00am on Thursday morning in a bid to prevent her from levaing for the airport, where she is scheduled to appear before Senate committee on NDDC in Abuja this morning.
“Nunieh just called me now. The police have taken over her house since 4:00am in Port Harcourt. She is expected to testify before the House of Reps today. With a noticeable distress in her voice, she alleged the police broke into her premises and she expected they would take her away soon,” a source revealed to Sahara Reporters.
Joy Nunieh and the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, have been at loggerhead, after they appeared before a Senate ad hoc panel investigating the alleged mismanagement of N40bn by the Interim Management Committee of the NDDC, last week.
At the hearing however, Akpabio denied knowledge of NDDC expenditure, saying Nunieh refused to give him briefings.
But Nunieh, who made damning allegations against Akpabio, said the minister removed her because she refused to dance to his tunes.
She also accused the former Akwa Ibom governor of sexual advances.
Some of the allegation she laid against Akpabio includes; that she should change the dollars in the NDDC account; to sack the head of the legal team, who is from the North; and also to implicate Peter Nwaoboshi, Chairman of the Senate Committee on NDDC.
She added that, Akpabio warned that if she did not follow his instructions, she would be removed.
