Ismaila Isa Funtua, an associate of President Muhammadu Buhari, is dead.

He was said to have died on Monday evening, after suffering a cardiac arrest.

This was made known in a tweet by Bashir Ahmad, media aide to president Buhari.

He described Funtua’s death as sudden, while praying that his sins be forgiven.

“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un! Just heard about Mallam Ismaila Isa Funtua’s sudden death. This life! May Allah accept his soul, forgive his shortcomings and grant him Jannah al-Firdaus,” he tweeted.

Mr. Funtua was the founding managing director of Democrat Newspaper and former president of the Newspaper Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN). He was also a life patron of the NPAN.

Funtua and late Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari were very close to President Muhammadu Buhari and have often times been decribed as members of his cabal, who took key decision on behalf of the president.
