HID Awolowo Buried Next to her Husband, Obafemi Awolowo

Late Mrs. Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, wife of the first Premier of the Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, was yesterday laid to rest in Ikenne, Ogun State.

Mama Awolowo, who would have clocked 100 years yesterday, was buried beside her husband’s grave, in the family mausoleum.

Major markets in Remoland, Ogun State wete vlosed in her honour.

Until her death, HID was the Iyalode of Remoland as well as the Yeye Oodua of Ife, among others.

A funeral service was held at Our Saviour’s Anglican Church, Ikenne followed immediately by her interment.

Prominent dignitaries who graced the ceremony includes, President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and ministers and politicians.
The president, Muhammadu Buhari, in his remarks, said: “I came back last evening from Iran and I had to make sure I do not miss the last rites for Mrs. Awolowo because she earned it,” he said.

“This is the third time I would be here, and I hope the family will try and continue to hold together as they have been doing.

“I appreciate all those who have come to participate in this ceremony.

“I discussed with the governor of Ogun state about what the Late Mrs. Awolowo did for the nation.

“While chief was all over the country and the world, she was effectively managing the family. May her soul rest in perfect peace.”
