The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, has given the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, 48 hours to publish the names of lawmakers who were awarded contracts by Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) as well as the details of the contracts.
This is following a robust accusation made by Akpabio yesterday during hearing by lawmakers probing the spendings and financial misconduct of the NDDC, that some lawmakers are beneficiaries of contracts from the commission.
Gbaja said the minister took the panel for a ride, adding that should he fail to publish the names within the said period, the House will employ the full wrath of the law to ensure he does so.
“I am giving the minister 24 to 48 hours to publish the names, the contracts, the companies, date, amount and the projects,” Gbaja said.
“Failing which, this house will bring the full wrath of the house on him. It is important that we set this record straight.
“The minister owes it to himself, to the committee, to people of Niger Delta, and the country to publish it. I will reserve my judgment. The minister came there to play games, but we do not play games here.”
