Four Soldiers Killed, Inmates Freed As Gunmen Attack Kogi Prison

Four soldiers have been killed in an attack on Kabba Correctional Centre in Kogi State.

Gunmen were said to have invaded the prison facility in the early hours of Monday, releasing 240 inmates.

Some guards at the correctional facility were also injured in the attack.

The soldiers were said to have mounted a routine check point some metres before the prison situated along Lokoja-Okebukun-Kabba-highway.

Some of the inmates who fled have been rearrested, according to prison sources.

Confirming the incident, the Assistant Inspector General of Police Zone 8, Ayuba Edeh, said efforts are being made to track down the attackers.

Security operatives have since commenced manhunt, to apprehend the remaining fleeing inmates.
