Explosion Rocks Catholic Church As Gunmen Kill Over 50 During Service In Ondo State

Yet to be identified gunmen on Sunday morning attacked St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo state, killing over 50.

The gunmen were said to have struck while service was going on.

It was revealed that no fewer than 50 corpses have been moved out of the church with many casualties lying at the Federal Medical Center, Owo, where they were rushed to.

A source explained that the gunmen detonated a bomb, which they planted within the church compound, before opening fire on the members, killing fire in but to cause large casualties.

He explained that the congregation were caught unaware, adding that the casualty figure might be more as some worshippers who were taken to the hospital are in critical condition.

The perpetrators were said to have fled the scene immediately they carried out the killing, leaving many people dead.

Some dead bodies were seen soaked with blood in the church in a video obtained by News of Nigeria.

Many of the victims were taken to the federal medical center in Owo, while others, who could not get bed spaces, were referred to private hospitals within the local government.
Meanwhile, medical experts are calling on citizens, to come donate blood, as the hospital have been overwhelmed.
