DPO, 62 others Killed in Suspected Boko Haram Ambush

Suspected Boko Haram members, have killed a Divisional Police Officer, Mr. Okezie Okereofor, and 62 others in Adamawa State.

Although, eyewitnesses also said the gunmen, numbering about 300, looked like Fulani herdsmen.

The gunmen attacked five villages in Girei Local Government Area, of the State.

They were Demsare, Wunamokoh, Dikajam, Taboungo and Fawore.

Mr. Okereofor who was the DPO in charge of Vunokilang Police Station, located in one of the towns, was said to have been transferred to the community from Okigwe in Imo State barely two months ago.

He was ambushed alongside other officers and men as they moved into the communities to stop the invaders.

The spokesman of the Adamawa State Police Command, Othman Abubakar, confirmed the development.

Abubakar said Okereofor and his officers and men were attacked while on official duty by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

He said available reports indicated that the attackers looted the villagers’ foodstuff and livestock before setting their homes ablaze.

The bodies of the police officers and others killed in the attack, have been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre, Yola, according to source.
