BREAKING: President Buhari Appoints New Service Chiefs

President Muhammadu Buhari has announced the appointment of new service chiefs in the country.

This is following the resignation of the current service chiefs, who have since attained the mandatory retirement years in service.

In a Twitter post which was shared online, the president noted that he has accepted the resignation of the outgoing service chiefs.

He tweeted, ”I have accepted the immediate resignation of the Service Chiefs, and their retirement from service. I thank them all for their overwhelming achievements in our efforts at bringing enduring peace to Nigeria, and wish them well in their future endeavours.

”I have also appointed new Service Chiefs, to replace the retired officers:

Major-General Leo Irabor, Chief of Defence Staff

Major-General I. Attahiru, Chief of Army Staff

Rear Admiral A.Z Gambo, Chief of Naval Staff

Air-Vice Marshal I.O Amao, Chief of Air Staff,” he tweeted.

The appointed officers would replace, Gen. Gabriel Olonisakin, Former Chief of Defence Stafd.

Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, former Chief of Army Staff.

Vice Admiral Ibok Ibas, former Chief of Naval Staff.

And Air Vice Marshal Sadique Abubakar as Chief of Air Staff.

Their appointment as service chiefs was confirmed on July 13, 2015, after the president assumed office.

Nigerians had continued to call for the sacking of the outgoing service chief, following the increase in insecurity in the country.
