Bashir Tofa, MKO Abiola’s opponent in 1993 election, dead at 74

Bashir Tofa, a former presidential candidate of the National Republican Convention in the 1993 presidential election, is dead.

Tofa died at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital in the early hours of Monday, after a brief illness at the age of 74.

Recall that Bashir Tofa contested against MKO Abiola of the Social Democratic Party in the 1993 presidential election.

Recall that the 1993 adjudged to be the freest and fairest poll in Nigeria, was eventually annulled by the Ibrahim Babangida regime.

Tofa’s burial plans are underway. A family source said he would be buried around 9am, according to Ismalic rites.
