Bandits Abduct Over 100 School Children From Bethel School in Kaduna

Gunmen said to be bandits in the early hours of Monday abducted over 100 children from Bethel Secondary School, Maramara Chickun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Bethel Secondary School is a boarding school located at the outskirts of Kaduna.

This was confirmed by the security guard of the school, Mr. Daniel Muhuta, “I escaped narrowly. They came around 1.00am and started shooting. I was at the back of the school domentary when I heard shooting and decided to pin down.”

Also, Joseph Hayab, Kaduna state chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and parent to one of the pupils in the school, confirmed the incident.

Hayab said his son, was among those who narrowly escaped being abducted.

He said many of the students were missing, explaining that it is not possible to determine the number of those abducted until those who ran into hiding are back.

He, however, said many of the students are believed to have been abducted.

“We cannot give the exact figure of those abducted for now, until those who ran into hi for safety are back and a census of the students is taken, but we know they took a lot of students,” Hayab said.

“I am just speechless, I don’t know what to say. My son was among the students who narrowly escaped.

“I am part of this unfortunate incident because it is my church. This is a very, very sad situation for us.

“I was informed that bandits invaded the school around 2am.

“They have just started the NECO exam and see what we are going through.”

Security personnel have since cordoned off the area, even as parents and relatives of the kidnapped students gathered at the main entrance in a sorrowful mood, while some were seen protesting the kidnap of their wards.

Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige did not pick his calls and did not respond to text messages sent to him.
