The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared the appointment of Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, as a Professor by the Federal University of Technology (FUTO), Owerri, as illegal.
Asking for the withdrawal of the professorship after its meeting on Monday, President of the union, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, said the award of professorship to Pantami is grossly illegal.
He said it is alien to university system globally to award a professorship to somebody outside academics and that the Minister’s should not be an exemption.
Recall that in September 2021, Pantami, alongside seven academics were made professors by the council of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, at the council’s 186th meeting.
