The newly installed acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed, has sworn-in members of the 2019 Election Petition Tribunals.
Justice Mohammed inaugurated 250 Judges that will handle cases that may arise from the 2019 presidential, national assembly, governorship and state assembly elections.
Mohammed emerged acting Chief Justice on Friday after President Muhammadu Buhari suspended Justice Walter Onnoghen as the CJN over charges bordering on corruption.
President Buhari had said yesterday that his decision to suspended Onnoghen was premised on a directive he received from the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) asking him to suspend the substantive CJN pending the outcome of his false assets and non-assets declaration case.
Following Onnoghen’s suspension, the President installed Justice Mohammed as acting CJN. The swearing-in held yesterday at the Council Chamber of the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.
