The Presidency confirms terrorist attack on convoy of cars carrying the Advance Team of President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday.
The convoy was on its way to the president’s hometown of Daura in Katsina State, when it came under attack.
The President is expected to embark on a trip to Daura for the Eid-El Kabir celebration.
The attack on the convoy of security guards, protocol and media officers was a shooting incident near Dutsinma in Katsina State, which has been described by the Presidency as sad and unwelcome.
The attackers according to a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, opened fire on the convoy from ambush positions but were repelled by the military, police and DSS personnel accompanying the convoy.
Two unnamed persons in the convoy were affected by the attack and they are receiving treatment for the minor injuries they sustained.
All the other personnel, staff and vehicles are said to have made it safely to Daura to await the arrival of President Buhari.
