The United States of America has added Nigeria to a list of countries that lacks religious freedom.
Speaking on Twitter on Monday, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” for religious freedom .
“These annual designations show that when religious freedom is attacked, we will act.”
Others on the blakclist includes, China, Iran, Pakistan, Myanmar, North Korea and Saudi Arabia.
Although, the US did not give reason for including Nigeria on the list, however, the law requires designations for nations that either engage in or tolerate “systematic, ongoing, egregious violations of religious freedom,” to improve their records on religious freedom or face sanctions, if they fail to improve their records.
