Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state has described the court ruling which suspended Adams Oshiomhole as the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a right decision for the party.
Daily Trust reports that Obaseki stated this on Wednesday evening, March 4, in Benin during the Edo South senatorial rally to seek for new members.
“No man is God and no man can play God. With what God has done today, what we should do now is to just thank him. When we planned this meeting last week, we did not know that God has a plan for us today,” he said.
He noted that the court’s pronouncement meant that peace had finally returned to the party in the state.
In his own reaction, the party’s factional chairman, Anselm Ojezua, said Oshiomhole’s suspension will provide the needed atmosphere for peace in the party in the state.
He also sent a message to the members-elect of the state House of Assembly who are in Abuja and yet to be inaugurated to learn from what befell Oshiomhole and return to represent their constituencies.
He said the lawmakers-elect have been forgiven and will be accepted if they return to the state.
In its own version of the report, The Sun reports that Governor Obaseki said the APC is one, noting that the problem he was having with the national chairman was that he failed to heed to him when he asked him to denounce the EPM which he refused.
He said he was not afraid to see people coming out to say that they want to contest for the governorship position but they have to do it according to the rules of the game.
The Edo state governor added that he was prepared to embrace anything that would bring peace into the party and the state.
Meanwhile, the acting national secretary of the APC, Chief Victor Giadom, said the ruling party will respect the court order suspending Oshiomhole.
Giadom in his reaction told newsmen the party will abide by the order.
Oshiomhole was on Wednesday, March 4, suspended as the national chairman of the ruling APC by a Federal Capital Territory high court in Jabi.
