The Lagos State Police Commissioner, Mr. Edgal Imohimi, yesterday said there would be no change of guard at the state command for now.
Edgal who was supposed to hand over to Kayode Egbetokun, former chief security officer to Bola Tinubu, a national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who had been named the new commissioner of police in the state, said this during the handing over ceremony at the command headquarters in Ikeja.
The ceremony which was already underway with Egbetokun having a closed-door meeting with Edgal when a phone call believed to be from the newly-decorated Inspector General of Police, Adamu Mohammed Lafia, came in and directed that the handing and taking over be cancelled till further notice.
“Gentlemen of the press are you here for the handing over and taking over? Are you here because you love me or you are eager for me to leave? Well, there is a directive that the status quo should remain till further notice,” Edgal briefed the press in company of Egbetokun.
“I am sure that you know Mr. Kayode Egbetokun; he is an old timer in the command.”
“You all know that our first job is about order and direction; we were about concluding the handing and taking over procedure when we were instructed by our bosses from Abuja to suspend action for now.
“So, there will be no change of guard for now. Of course, we would keep the press briefed about any development.
“But I am happy, humbled that you find it serious enough for you all to come to witness what we are doing here. I consider it an honour.”
Edgal had been transferred from the Lagos State Police command to the Force Headquarters, Abuja, as the Commissioner of Police in charge of Explosive Ordinance Department (EOD).
