Fondly called the Snake Woman of Africa, Nokulunga Buthelezi is a South African, born in Johannesburg. She is unique because of her natural ability to twist her body like a snake.
She is believed to have gotten this rare gift from her great-grandmother, because of the “snake genes” she passed on to her.
“I never met my great-grandmother, but apparently she was as flexible as I am,” says Lunga. “I was glad when I learnt that, because I used to think: ‘Why am I like this? Why am I the only one who can do it?”
As a young child, she contorts in her baby cot, a practice which will see her grow into a perfectionist when it comes to contortion. She doesn’t practice for it and this has earned her the title, “Snake Woman of Africa”.
