Sunday Asefon, has energed president of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, amid a convention that was marred by violence.
The convention was held on Thursday in Abuja, at the old parade ground in the Federal Capital Territory.
Asefon, who is said to be a civil servant with the Ekiti State Government, garnered 155 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Olushola Oladoja, who scored 100 votes.
With the victory, the 45-year old, Postgraduate student of Ekiti State University, replaces Bamidele Akpan.
The new NANS president was Federation of Ekiti State Students’ Union (FESSU’s) National President in 2010 and the NANS Zone D Coordinator in 2013.
However, Nigerians have continued to react, asking how a 45-year-old got elected to represent Nigerian students and youths.
